CKC Nashville and CREATE New Jersey

Registration for the Creating Keepsakes Convention (CKC) Nashville is open now through August 13, 2012.  CKC Nashville will take place August 24025, 2012.  Register here.   Class descriptions are here. The CKC events are held by Creating Keepsakes magazine, the emphasis is on scrapbooking, but there will be classes on making flowers, using alcohol pens, and making cards, among other things. 

If this event were in Nashville, Indiana, I'd try to go, even if it were only for the chance to attend the vendor fair or to get my hands on one of those cool SMASH books from EK Success.  

CREATE New Jersey is set for July 18--22, 2012  at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Somerset, NJ.

Workshop details are here.  The workshops at CREATE are expensive, but the list of workshops and instructors alone suggests that attending would be worth every penny.  Seth Apter, Jane Davies, and Joanne Sharpe are among the instructors.  Workshops include Collaboration Station, Introduction to Fusion Fabric, and Magical Marker Mystery Tour.  If you do plan to attend any of the CREATE retreats, make sure to carefully read the class descriptions and the list of materials to bring to the workshops.  Each workshop will use different materials, and some of them have specific instructions about what participants should bring.

Shapes, Colors, and the Gelli Plate

Just playing around with mixing colors and shapes on the Gelli plate.  Inspired by Jane Davies and Joan Gillman Smith (but nowhere near that good.)  A word to the wise. You've probably seen a lot of videos and pictorials on how to use the Gelli plate. I know I have. I've also been making prints for months and been mostly dissatisfied with the results.  A lot of the videos and tutorials I've seen show people putting several dollops of paint onto the Gelli plate. I was doing the same thing until just a few weeks ago. I've realized that I have been using waaaaaayyyy too much paint.   Of course, your mileage may vary, but if you want crisper images from your Gelli prints, try using far less paint than you have been.  For the 8 x 10 plate, I would suggest just a few drops* of fluid acrylics or one small dollop of soft-bodied tube acrylics, such as Liquitex student-grade paints. More Shapes and the Gelli Plate

Just a quick post with more shapes made on the Gelli plate.  Included some layered ghost prints, too.  The first four prints  are ghosts made were made on drawing paper.  The last two—one a ghost and the other a first pull—were printed on ordinary copy paper.  I used Liquitex Basics, Golden fluid acrylics, and Golden open medium.

Quick Post—Gelli Printed Cards

Just a quick post with some cards I made as part of  Traci Bautista's Strathmore online workshop .  I used a sheet of Strathmore's 400 Series printmaking paper, a strip of torn paper as a mask, and acrylic paints.  The swirl effects came from gliding a Catalyst Contour  tool across the paint on the Gelli Arts printing plate.    Cards made from gelli printed panels.
