Fun with Dylusions
While this blog is rather low on photos and tutorials, I thought I would include a picture of some tags I made with Dylusions spray inks and black paint. I've added some distressed dots to the middle tag since the picture was taken.
I had sprayed the tags with Vibrant turquoise Dylusions spray and had used the ghost stenciling and printing technique on them. Ghost stenciling involves spraying water through a stencil onto a surface that already has some water-reactive ink—such as Dylusions—on it. After ten seconds or so, you blot up the water, which leaves behind a stenciled image that is lighter than the surrounding inked surface. You can then take the wet stencil, turn it over onto a surface that also has been covered with some water-reactive ink and use the wet stencil to make a ghost "print." Just press with your hands or a brayer to make sure the stencil makes good contact with your surface. Blot up excess water with a soft cloth or paper towel to reveal your printed image
Anyway, I'd made the Vibrant Turquoise tag backgrounds very quickly one day, but didn't know what to do with them. As I have time, I have been working on some stuff for Stampington's aqua color challenge. The Vibrant Turquoise spray is not quite aqua, but I've discovered it pairs well with aqua paint.
I've seen a lot of examples of layering the Dylusions sprays, so I thought I'd try my hand at that with the tags. Also, I wanted to make something a little more dynamic and loose than is my normal style—to the extent that I even have a style. I ended up doing something that does not really go with the aqua challenge, but was sorto fun and freeing.
The tags in the picture are all from my Vibrant Turquoise tag stash. For the butterfly tags, I lightly misted the tags with water and used a circle stencil and some Fresh Lime Dylusions spray. The tag on the right shows the circles created by spraying through the stencil. The tag on the left has circles created by using wet stencil to "print" ink onto the tag. I misted the center tag with water then sprayed the ink through a small numbers and letters stencil. I then made a print onto another tag that is not shown in the picture.
I stamped the images with Staz-On ink in Jet Black. The tag on the left has a screen printed butterfly made from a mini screen and Folk Art acrylic paint in Licorice. I created distressed edges on the tags by applying the black paint and a craft stick.
