Monday Menu
This year's harsh winter may be keeping you indoors, but here are a few items for your enjoyment, starting first with some upcoming paper arts events:
- Creating Keepsakes has begun its annual CKC scrapbooking conventions at sites all over the United States. Registration is open for upcoming events in St. Louis, Portland, Manchester, NH, and Buffalo. Registration for the Phoenix event will open on February 12, 2014. Go here for the list of upcoming cities and registration details. The CKC events start in April. Perhaps the weather will have warmed up by then.
- Art Journal Every Day is an online group Julie Fei-Fan Balzer started on her blog a few years ago. This is not an e-course so much as a group of papercrafters dedicated to working in their art journals every day. Balzer has an Art Journal Every Day post on her blog every Friday. There is no cost to join the group, and you can choose to upload your journal pages to the Art Journal Every Day flickr group and/or post link to your blog. Or, you can choose to do neither and just follow along as a way to keep yourself motivated to work in your journal every day. You are under no pressure to actually complete an art journal page every day. The idea is to do something in your journal every day, even just putting down a layer of color or adding some details to the page with stamps, pens, etc. Balzer explains Art Journal Every Day here. I am not a participant in Art Journal Every Day, but I have taken two of Balzer's online classes. She is an engaging teacher who has a real knack for encouraging and helpful instruction.
- Take a free art journaling class at your leisure from Kristal Norton. If you sign up for her Art Journaling 101 course, you will receive daily lessons via email for about two weeks. Some lessons include videos; others are blog posts with pictures and links to other blogs. The lessons are short, but they cover the basics of how (and why) to get started, different styles of art journaling, and what supplies are useful to have on hand.
If you are tired of winter and want a reminder that warmer weather is on its sway—eventually—go to the Marin Mama Cooks blog for this recipe for Pesto-Yogurt Roasted Chicken Drumsticks.
